Product Overview
The Eagle 4" Sanitary Check Valve belongs to the range of check valves having standard sizes. It is designed to be used in cases where hygiene is of priority over the speed of the flow. The valve is made out of solid 316L stainless steel and has a disc having spring action which can open completely while passing the forward flow and close the valve when the flow is stopped or reversed. The diameter of 4 inches enables the body of the valve to pass up to 75 gallons per minute thereby allowing a 25-gallon batch of beer to be passed in less than 30 seconds. The way the valve is constructed leaves no place for the bacteria to remain on its internal surface.

Why would I need a 4-inch check valve for a home setup?

Is this valve suitable for steam applications?
Certainly. The body and inner parts of the 316L stainless steel are suitable for continuous use up to 200°F, which allows the use of saturated steam under low pressure. In steam distilling and steam cleaning operations, the spring-loaded disc is closed reliably even during thermal cycles. Make sure your steam pressure is below the valve's maximum working pressure of 145 PSI.
How does the 4-inch valve compare to the 3-inch version for flow rate?
The cross section of the four inches check valve is about 1.8 times that of the three inches version, which means it will experience nearly 1.8 times the same flow rate at the constant pressure. In case the three inches line is a bottleneck – the transfers take longer than expected and the pumps operate harder than they should – you should upgrade it to the four inches valve and line.
Does this valve require special tools or skills to install?
The butt-weld ends necessitate the use of orbital welding to achieve a correct sanitary connection. In the event that you do not own welding equipment or do not have experience with welding, you may hire a professional pipefitter, or sanitary welder, who will carry out the installation. The welding must ensure full penetration, as well as provide a smooth internal bead that preserves the sanitary quality of the valve.
