Our 4" Plain Bevel Seat Rubber Hose Adapter is designed to optimize the use of hygienically-sensitive systems with large-diameter hoses. The adapter has been made from 304 or 316L stainless steel and is certified by 3A for both the food and beverage industries. Thus, in addition to being satisfactory for demanding and high-volume applications, this adapter can also be quite advantageous thanks to both its better leak-proof performance and ease of cleaning.
Product Overview
The Eagle sanitary hose adapter selection has a 4-inch variation, which represents the biggest of all standard adapters and serves the purpose of connecting high-capacity applications utilizing large flexible rubber hoses onto rigid Tri-Clamp piping. The plain bevel seat locks into the standard 4-inch Tri-Clamp ferrules, forming a level joint that has no crevices and can handle both thermal cycling and mechanical stress encountered in big CIP systems. The barbed end of this adapter has been made particularly for 4-inch rubber hoses and has enough engagement length to ensure that even thick hoses would stay in place effectively. It is made in both 304 and 316L stainless steel with the surface polished to 32Ra mirror finish and has the 3A certification.

What size is a standard hose adapter?
There is no universal size of hose adapter – correct size depends on inner diameter of hose and tri-clamp ferrule. In the sanitary process, common flexible connection sizes are 1, 1.5 and 2 inches, covering small-medium transfer operations. For high-volume applications, such as tank loading and unloading, large CIP return lines, and bulk transfers, adapters up to 3 and 4 inches are used. Adapter size should always comply with hose ID and the flow rate required by the system, rather than simply choosing a size as a common "standard". Any difference in barbed diameter and hose ID means that adapter will either come loose or will be too difficult to assemble.
What is a garden hose adapter called?
Garden hose adapters are commonly known as hose connectors, hose menders, or hose couplings, and they utilize GHT (Garden Hose Thread) connections instead of the Tri-Clamp bevel seat connections utilized in sanitary processing. These are consumer-grade entities constructed from either brass or plastic and are intended for use in standard residential water pressures and temperatures. They do not conform to the 3A sanitary standards and have not been made from 316L stainless steel with electropolished finishes. The term "hose adapter" in a sanitary processing context refers to an entirely different category of items that serves a hygienic purpose.
Are standard hoses 5/8 or 3/4?
In garden hose applications, both domestic and industrial uses, common diameters include 5/8 inch and 3/4 inch measured internally. This is not related to the dimensions of sanitary hoses because flexible tubing is rated in terms of its internal diameter in inches or millimeters, and matches the outside diameter of the tube and barb size. A 1 inch sanitary hose will have a 1 inch ID and needs a 1 inch barb connector. Sizes are direct and nominal in that a 2 inch connector goes with a 2 inch hose, unlike the case with hose sizes and threading standards. It is always advisable to take all measurements and not depend on nominal size.
How to choose the right hose adapter?
Choosing an appropriate hose adapter requires considering four factors. First, the hose adapter’s barb diameter needs to match the inside diameter of the hose. What this means is that the hose should be able to slide over the barb with some resistance but without the need for too much effort. Second, the size of the bevel seat should be compatible with the tri-clamp ferrule to which it will be attached. For example, a 2-inch barb adapter also needs a 2-inch clamp and gasket. Third, the right material needs to be selected for the process fluid and cleaning chemicals used. 316L is preferred for aggressive cleaning solutions and products with chloride content, while 304 is more appropriate for ordinary food and dairy applications. Fourth, sufficient flow capacity needs to be ensured for the processed material and the design flow velocity. In the case of larger tubes used for high flow applications, a 4-inch hose adapter can provide enough area for transferring large volumes of the processed material without high losses.
