Product Overview
The Eagle 3A Manual Diaphragm Valve in the 3/4 in. size performs the same absolute process isolation as other bigger valves but in a compact design intended for smaller hygienic piping. All areas in contact with fluids are made of 316L stainless steel providing a good resistance to cleaning agents and process fluids. The handwheel-activated compressor compresses a flexible diaphragm to the precision weir forming a tight barrier isolating the process fluid from the outer environment. The valve is particularly designed for sterile sampling lines, small transfer batches, and utilities’ connections when larger valves become oversized and do not bring any benefit.

What pipe sizes is a 3/4" diaphragm valve typically used with?
Designed specifically for usage with 3/4-inch OD stainless steel tubing having a real outside diameter of 19.05 mm, the 3/4-inch sanitary diaphragm valve is a widely used valve in pharmaceutical sampling lines, clean utility drops, and small scale processing connections. A full 1-inch valve would be too big for this size. It utilizes standard 3/4-inch Tri Clamp ferrules and uses the same clamp and gasket components as those used in the other sizes.
How do I know when to replace the diaphragm?
It is necessary to change the diaphragm when it starts showing signs of damage including cracking, swelling, permanent deformation, or rough surface which may harbor bacteria. Under conditions of normal CIP, the diaphragm changes will be needed in about 12–24 months of regular operation of the valve with EPDM diaphragm. Whenever the valve is being subjected to aggressive chemicals or frequently undergoes heat treatment (above 135 °C), the replacement time will become shorter. It takes none to inform the technician whenever the diaphragm fails to perform correctly such as leaking or failing to seal properly. If a process that was constructed with manual valves is upgraded to automatic control, then the manual actuator can be replaced by the pneumatic actuator without having to remove the valve body from the pipeline. The modular design helps to protect the initial investment and gives an easy way to upgrade as production increases and needs for automation arise. What is the correct installation orientation for a weir-type diaphragm valve?
When installing a weir-type diaphragm valve, it is imperative to ensure that the valve body is positioned such that it will be able to drain when the system is emptied. Ideally, the angle of installation should be such that the valve body has a slight incline from horizontal, as indicated in the installation illustration. This position ensures that there will be no liquid left behind on the upstream side of the weir once the line has been drained; this is critical for ensuring the effectiveness of the CIP process and the prevention of microbial growth in the pool of water. The valve can be installed in both horizontal and vertical runs of pipe, provided that the requirement for draining the system is met. Do not have the handwheel of the valve face down, as this may result in accumulation of debris in the area of the stem, making maintenance work difficult.
