The Eagle 3A Manual Diaphragm Valve has been designed to provide complete isolation of processes in aseptic and high-purity applications. The valve body is made from 316L stainless steel for all surfaces that come into contact with fluids, thus providing high-quality resistance to chemical cleaning products. The working of the valve includes a handwheel that moves a precise compressor via the diaphragm and forms a sealed unit. What is a diaphragm valve used for?
The diaphragm valve is used to allow/disallow flow in sanitary processes that require pure product consideration during the process. It does so by using a membrane that fully blocks the passage of fluid when it is in the closed position. The diaphragm valve types are common in biopharma, food and drinks production, and aseptic vapor processing. The manual diaphragm valve works in cases where automation is not important, such as sampling, small batch operations, or seldom use for shut-off.
What are the disadvantages of a diaphragm valve?
The diaphragm valve presents several limitations. What is the lifespan of a diaphragm valve?
The lifespan of a diaphragm valve body made of 316L stainless steel is estimated to be measured in decades since the metal parts generally outlast the lifespan of the process line. However, it should be stated that out of the entire valve body, it is only the diaphragm that can be considered a wear item with a limited lifespan, depending on the working conditions. If the working conditions are typical for hygienic processing with compatible chemicals and moderate cyclic work, the EPDM diaphragm can last between 12 and 24 months before being due for a replacement. In case of heavy-duty working conditions with many high-temperature SIP cycles, aggressive cleaning solutions, and rapid cycling the diaphragm can be replaced every 6 – 12 months. What is the difference between a diaphragm valve and a globe valve?
A diaphragm valve operates by having a flexible diaphragm positioned to cover a weir to ensure that fluids cannot leak inside. By contrast, a globe valve contains a metal plug that reaches the seat containing either a piece of metal or a composite material, as the stem of such a valve will need to be passed through a structure containing packing that is likely to leak and needs to be serviced. Diaphragm valves are identified as a more suitable option for applications of sanitary and aseptic nature due to the design of the valves, which can be cleaned easily, as there are no areas where deposited material can be trapped.
