Product Overview
The Eagle 1-1/2” Sanitary Check Valve is a spring-assisted, one-solution device that is made of 316L (L for low-carbon) stainless steel and features a smooth finish of 32Ra on the inside surface of the valve. It works by allowing the disk part of the valve to rise, thereby providing easy flow when the pressure is in the forward direction. The disk goes back to its seat when the flow stops so that the fluid cannot go back through the valve. The body has been designed so that it can be welded in it, meaning no gaskets, joints, and no need for periodic retightening of screws or bolts. This valve is utilized for liquids with low and middle viscosity and under the pressure of up to 145 PSI and temperature of up to 200°F.

Is this check valve too large for a standard home brewing setup?
Not at all. This 1-1/2" size works perfectly for any brewing rigs with a capacity of 5 gallons or more, including kegerator transfer lines and farm watering systems. It is compatible with the most common pipe size used by larger home installations. In case you have smaller pipes, check Eagle's other check valve options available in 1/2”, 3/4” and 1” sizes.
Can this valve be installed outdoors?
Definitely, the stainless steel body 316L is protected against rain, snow, sunshine, and changes of temperature that make it safe from rust, pits, and wear in outdoor places. The weld-in joint makes it impervious to leaks for those applications where a permanently installed connection is useful. Either way, if you decide to connect the valve with semipermanent setups, do not forget to use suitable tubing that will withstand UV rays too.
How do I clean this check valve after use with food or beverage products?
With the electropolished surface of the 32Ra, residues of substances within are released quite easily. For home use, simply disassemble the valve (if designed to do so), rinse it out with hot water and detergent, and wipe it dry. If the residue is heavier, such as beer stone or dairy deposits, cleaning may be done by soaking in a brewing sanitizer like Star San: no rinsing is needed. In a CIP system, the valve is cleaned in place without any assembly being required, and that is possible due to the smooth internal bore of the valve.
What are the distinctions between spring-loaded check valves and swing check valves utilized in home brewing?
A spring check valve closes immediately after flow stops or reverses; this happens regardless of whether the valve is oriented vertically or horizontally. On the other hand, a swing check valve uses gravity and reverse flow to close its disc. This means that this type should be installed in a certain orientation; thus, the swing check valve closes slower.In the case of home brewing, a spring check valve is preferred, as it can avoid backflow at any moment, be positioned in any way, and close quickly.
